Abbi Saperstein is donating $20,000 to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and is looking for colleagues and members of the community to help match his donation to total $40,000 by Jan 1, 2019.
Abbi was inspired by the selfless act of Make-A-Wish recipient, Timothy Bourbeau, who used his ‘Wish’ to have Playstations donated to hospital rooms at the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia--making the lives of other young cancer patients a little more comfortable. Bourbeau could have used his wish to go anywhere, meet anyone, or do anything he wanted, but instead, he decided to use it to make life better for those around him.
Having discovered that Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the first and largest pediatric hospital in Southern California, had very few available gaming systems for their young patients, Abbi Saperstein decided to step-up and help. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution that provides health care and more than $232.6 million in community benefits annually to children and families. The funds raised will be used to purchase GO Karts (Gamers Outreach Karts), which are portable, medical-grade video game kiosks that enable hospital staff to easily provide bedside recreation to children who are unable to leave their rooms in hospitals. Gamers Outreach eases the burdens of hospitalization by providing equipment, technology, and software to help kids cope with treatment.
“I was really moved by Tim’s selfless generosity, and when I learned of Childrens Hospital's goal to purchase as many of these Gaming Karts as possible for the holidays,” says Mr. Saperstein, “I knew I had to help.” Each Go Kart costs approximately $3,000. He adds, “Kids with compromised immunity do not have many options for activities, nor many distractions from the pain of treatment. These gaming Karts offer them a momentary reprieve—and an opportunity to feel like a normal kid for a while. This is an opportunity for all of us to make a difference in the lives of these children battling severe illnesses”.
Any contribution to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is fully tax-deductible, get involved by making a donation today.
Thank you,
Abbi Saperstein
