Dr. William Magee, pediatric plastic surgeon at CHLA, has dedicated himself to serving and improving the lives of those affected by craniofacial anomalies. Current research projects include: investigating the genetic and environmental exposures associated with oral clefts in multiethnic populations; determining the prevalence of cleft disease in developing countries and identifying the barriers to surgical care; creating a common severity scale for medical professionals which would lead to improved communication, surgical decisions and outcomes; and training non-physicians to deliver surgical care in resource-limited settings.
