The Health Outcomes and Policy Effects (HOPE) Lab is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families through research that transforms clinical care, informs health policy, and advances child health nationwide.

Founded and led by Dr. Lorraine Kelley-Quon, pediatric surgeon and health services researcher at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the Keck School of Medicine of USC, the HOPE Lab brings together clinicians, researchers, trainees, and community partners to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing children today.

From improving pain management after surgery to addressing the impact of the opioid epidemic on children, adolescents, and families, our research seeks practical solutions to complex healthcare challenges. We study how to provide safer, more effective pain treatment, prevent substance use disorders in adolescents, and understand how early-life opioid exposure may affect child development. Our work has helped shape national pediatric opioid prescribing guidelines, informed healthcare policy, and advanced safer care for children across the country.

Supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the HOPE Lab conducts rigorous research with real-world impact. Philanthropic support allows us to accelerate discovery, launch innovative pilot projects, train future leaders, and expand community outreach efforts.
