Koala Corps

Donate Now

Help support our fundraising efforts with a donation to the Koala Corps! Help us start a program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to have a corps of volunteers holding baby’s who are alone in the hospital, which is something we witnessed a lot of. We’re calling it the Koala Corps. Read more below about the Koala Corps and our story.

We spent almost six long months at CHLA starting when she was six weeks old. Our daughter Shae was born with cognitive delays and many complicated health issues. Being there so long, we witnessed miracles and children given a chance at life. We also saw a lot of pain and incredible hardship, more than I can possibly describe.

One of the things that always tugged on our hearts was seeing little ones alone in their room with no one to hold or comfort them while they were dealing with some very difficult stuff. The staff at CHLA is amazing but they can only do so much. There are many reasons babies are alone. Parents have no choice but to work, single parents, no child care for their other children, and we even saw abandonment. Even though I was able to be there most of the time because, I am stay-at-home mom, there were times I couldn’t be there with Shae. My husband had to work and I had to also spend some time with my two year old. On a few of those occasions I walked into her hospital room and there was an elderly gentleman rocking Shae. It was a precious sight that was so comforting and relieving to know Shae wasn’t alone. I don’t know his name but I will never forget him. We want that for every baby. No little one should be alone. We have decided to call this opperation, the Koala Corps.

The name Koala Corps is inspired by Shae. We all know Koala’s hold their young. Shae is stuck by my side and most of her life has wanted to be constantly held. She is eleven now but still follows me everywhere and wants to sit on my lap. I asked her the other day, “why did you follow me into the garage, I told you I’d be right back?” She said, “because I’m your Koala!”

We are on a mission to get every baby held. We want a corps of volunteers to fill the hospital with love and arms to hold every little one that needs to be held. It is an instant and tangible way to impact a child’s life. Right here in our community are little ones that can’t ask for what they need and shouldn’t have to suffer alone. All we need are funds for one full time position to train and run that program. We need 300K to run the program for three years. Join the Koala Corps! Please donate and do something incredible and touch the lives of these little children.Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of many young patients and their families. Any amount, great or small, will be greatly appreciated and will help us create hope and meet this need for the families of Southern California and beyond. Thank you!
