Jacob Singer Endowment for Child Life
Thank you for making a special donation to help patients and families at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in honor of Jacob Singer!
Jacob lived his last 2 months of his life at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Back then, parents were not allowed to stay in the same room as their sick child. Laurie and Bob would have to sneak in to spend time with him, or wait for the nurse who would look the other way when she saw them with their son. Thankfully now CHLA encourages parents and families to stay with their children.
Back then, the playroom at CHLA consisted of 3 VCR machines, a few board games, and a Mr. Potato head with missing pieces. When their daughter Jackie, who was then 5, would come to spend time with Jacob in the hospital, there was nothing for her to do. After Jacob passed away, Laurie and Bob wanted to do something....they held their first fundraiser for Children's Hospital Los Angeles 2 months after Jacob passed. They decided to donate that money to the play room. Laurie and Bob knew how important it was for not only the kids experiencing illness but the siblings to have some type of relief through play.
Your contributions not only help them pay tribute to their son Jacob, they also help the children staying at CHLA and their siblings. The play room is now called the Child Life Program and is based solely on philanthropic donations. It is a No Doctor zone, and there are Child Life Therapists working with both the children who are sick as well as their siblings. The playroom now has state of the art computers, toys and games. We want to give a huge thank you for all of your donations, they really make a difference in the lives of the children and siblings at CHLA!
