CHLA Swim Clinics

The CHLA Swim Clinic Series is designed to teach you open water swimming techniques and prepare you for race day. The swim clinics are a great fit for swimmers of all levels. Our experienced triathlon coaches will provide instruction for beginners, intermediate, and advanced swimmers. Lifeguards will be on hand to ensure your safety.

Swim Clinic Location:

  • May 31 – June 21: Bayshore Beach, 48 54th Place, Long Beach, CA 90803
  • June 28 – July 12: Alamitos Beach, 780 E Shoreline Drive, Long Beach, CA 90802

Parking

  • At Bayshore, there is free street parking along Ocean Blvd. as well as a paid parking lot at the 54th and Claremont Lot, 5400 E Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90803. Download the Passport Parking App. The lot at Bayshore is Zone 9372.
  • At Alamitos Beach, you can park at:
    • Alamitos Beach Lot, 380 E Shoreline Dr, Long Beach, CA 90802 (Zone 9377 on the Passport Parking App)
    • Marina Green Parking Lot, 420 Shoreline Village Dr, Long Beach, CA 90802 (Zone 9378 on the Passport Parking App)

  • Arrival Time: 7:25 am.
  • Swim Clinics: 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

The CHLA Swim Clinic Series is designed to teach you swimming techniques and prepare you for race day. Triathlon swim coaches will be there to guide you and ensure your safety.

Who gets to participate?

  • The CHLA Swim Clinic Series is exclusively for fundraising participants who have raised a minimum of $350 for pediatric cancer research at CHLA. If you’ve already raised $350 and would like to register for the clinics now, please email triathlon@chla.usc.edu for the registration link.
  • Friends and family are not able to participate in the clinic.
  • Your fundraising page must show you have met the $350 minimum by 3:00 p.m. on Friday prior to each Saturday clinic to qualify for registration.

What time should I arrive?

  • Please arrive no later than 7:25 a.m. to ensure you have time to check in at the registration table and change into your wetsuit.
  • Registration closes at 7:55 a.m. Any arrivals after this time will not be allowed to swim. The clinic will start promptly at 8:00 a.m.

What should you bring?

  • Goggles – These will be important to see in the water.
  • Wetsuit – The water is pretty chilly so we recommend you bring a wetsuit.
  • Change of clothes, towel, sunscreen, etc.
